Ingredients of Kolhapuri Chicken

  • 300 g chicken
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • 4 finely chopped onions
  • 1 handful of chopped coriander leaves
  • 2 Tablespoon Chili Powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 large chopped tomatoes
  • Salt as needed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 3 teaspoons grated coconut
  • 3 tablespoons refined oil

How to make kolhapuri chicken

  1. To make this easy Kolhapuri chicken recipe, start washing chicken in running water. To reduce your cooking time, you can boil the chicken with salt, turmeric, and black pepper.
  2. Meanwhile, take another pan and heat it on medium flame. Then fry the sesame seeds and poppy seeds together and keep them aside. Then dry the coconut and keep it aside.
  3. Now add 1 1/2 teaspoon ginger and garlic paste with turmeric powder and salt in a large bowl. Now add chicken pieces and rub well until the pieces are coated uniformly. Keep aside for about 45 to 60 minutes so that chicken pieces are well marinated.
  4. Then take a chopping board and chop the onion finely and fry until half of it is golden brown. Remove from the flame, and mix the onion with roasted coconut, sesame and poppy seeds. Grind in a fine paste.
  5. Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan. Add the remaining onion and saute for another 30 to 45 seconds. Put the remaining ginger and garlic paste and fry till the onion becomes golden brown. Then add red chili powder, tomatoes and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Put pieces of marinated chicken and cook for a minute. Then add the ground paste, salt, and some water. Mix well and boil it. Put garam masala powder, coriander leaves and cover the pan with a lid. Reduce heat and cook approximately 15 to 25 minutes or until chicken completely cooks. Serve Kolhapuri Chicken with Rice, Rumali Roti or Naan.
